Embarking on a road trip from the UK to Norway is an adventure steeped in breathtaking landscapes, captivating cultures, and an exploration of flavors that can be both exhilarating and rewarding. For those following a vegan lifestyle, the journey also presents a unique challenge: finding eateries that align with dietary preferences. This blog post charts our experiences as we navigated through various cities and towns, discovering delightful vegan-friendly dining options along the way.
Starting the Journey: Hull to Rotterdam
Our journey began in the UK, where we took the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. As we set sail, we prepared ourselves for a culinary adventure across borders.
On the Pride of Rotterdam, we discovered The Brasserie an a la carte dinning room and The Kitchen an all you can eat buffet, both serving vegan options. We opted for The Kitchen which was busy but welcoming, making it the perfect stop after a long day of travel. We had an authentic curry with rice and couldn't fault the flavour or the value for money.

Exploring Amsterdam
Our next stop brought us to Amsterdam in the Netherlands a city famous for its rich history and vibrant social scene.
In Amsterdam, we were thrilled to find Molenpad, a restaurant that is a favorite among locals and also offers vegan options. Their menu had limited vegan options but we were happy with the two options available either a salad or a vegan burger with all the trimmings.
There are so many bars and cafes in Amsterdam and were delighted we found Cafe Wester by the canal for lunch.
There is also Vegan Junk Food Bar, a playful eatery specializing in vegan fast food. Don’t let the name fool you; this spot focuses on delivering a guilt-free indulgence with their loaded vegan fries and delicious plant-based burgers. Enjoying a classic burger in such a whimsical setting will be an absolute highlight.

Crossing Into Germany: A Taste of Lubeck
As we made our way to Germany, we were particularly excited about our stop in Lubec, known for its diverse food scene and abundance of vegetarian and vegan options.
In Berlin, we visited Cafe Bar Lubeck, a hot spot for vegans and coffee lovers alike. They offered a well-crafted vegan menu that showcases their famous filled bagels and platters. The bustling atmosphere and friendly service made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

After a hearty meal, we explored more of the city, marvelling at the medieval architectural wonders. This cafe was so good we planned to visit again on our way home.
Denmark
After a wet and windy drive, we reached Denmark but decided to motor through to Sweden for the night. We had spotted a vegan place for the next morning so our culinary delight was Beans on Toast after a hot shower in our BnB.

Sweden: Malmo
Our destination in Malmo was Cafe Jord located a little off the beaten track in the middle of a residential area of appartments. This was a really busy cafe and guests were often waiting for a table. The cafe made superb breakfasts some of which you dont always see in the UK.
Michael chose a sourdough with hummus whilst I chose the most amazing pancakes with fruit, coconut and maple syrup. I can still taste these now

The Final Stretch: Arrival in Norway
Crossing into Norway was a moment filled with anticipation. The stunning fjords beckoned, promising picturesque views and new experiences.
As we were wild camping much of the time in Norway many of our meals were made on our camp stove and ranged from noodles, toasted sandwiches, pasta and rice.
We found some basic vegan meals in towns such as Kristiansund and a great vegan burger in the Shell Petrol station in Stord a big surprise.

. There was a vegan/vegetarian cafe in Bergen called Lovetann Cafe and Bistro. The mixed hummus and falafel platter was huge and we had ordered soup too. It was completely too much and if I'm honest not as tasty as it sounded or looked.

Our Final Stop Germany: Bremen
Our final stopover was in Bremen where we stopped at a cafe in the town centre Cafe & Bar Celona. The choices were limited so we had a basic salad lunch which was just ok.e.
